Residents of Kyiv have launched a campaign asking the city to prohibit so-called “living corners” in preschool institutions. The appeal, shared on Facebook and sent to Mayor Vitali Klitschko on 29 September 2026, argues that keeping animals such as guinea pigs, rabbits and parrots in kindergartens causes chronic stress due to noise, excessive attention from children and gaps in care during weekends or holidays.
Parents and animal-rights supporters also point to the risk of serious allergic reactions from contact with animal fur or feed. The initiative proposes alternative ways to teach empathy and respect for wildlife: telling children about fauna in its natural environment, showing educational videos, and organising collective support for local animal shelters with parental involvement.
