City workers and officials opened an owl monument in the square on Shchekavytska Street in Podil to mark the Day of Defenders and Defendresses of Ukraine, the Kyiv Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Adaptation reported. The owl is noted in the report as a symbol associated with Ukrainian military intelligence.
The installation complements a recent renewal of the pocket park. A 28-square-metre flowerbed built from inert materials was installed as a "winter variant" to preserve its look in cold months; workers also planted 300 chrysanthemums and repaired about 1,000 square metres of lawn around the site.
The department said the monument and the updated planting are intended to add to the city's public space and to serve as a visible reminder of gratitude to those who defend Ukraine. The square on Shchekavytska Street is a public, open location in Podil and can be visited at any time.
