The Los Angeles Lakers have named Eugene Jeter director of scouting for professional players, according to the New York Post and Ukrainian sports outlet Champion. In the role Jeter will be responsible for monitoring and analysing professional player personnel; he retired from playing in 2023.

Jeter first played professionally in Ukraine with BC Kyiv and later for Dnipro. He was naturalized as a Ukrainian citizen and appeared in 22 games for the national team, including EuroBasket 2013 — when Ukraine finished a record sixth — and the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

After retiring, Jeter worked in the Portland Trail Blazers organisation, combining player-development and front-office duties with the Rip City Remix in the NBA G League. The appointment comes as the NBA regular season approaches (the league’s regular season starts 20 October) and following the Lakers’ 2025/26 playoff exit to Oklahoma in the quarterfinals.
