Kyiv police reported on October 3 that a 20-year-old locksmith, reportedly intoxicated, unlawfully took a tram from a depot and set off along a route toward the Boryspilska metro station. The depot dispatcher first noticed the reserve tram was missing and alerted police.

According to the police release cited by UNN, workers had to cut power to the overhead contact network to stop the tram. A breathalyzer reading showed 1.41‰. When questioned, the detained man said he took the vehicle because he “really likes” riding trams. He was arrested and notified of suspicion under Article 289(1) of the Criminal Code (illegal seizure of a vehicle), which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.
