The fourth competition day of the World Judo Championships in Baku (7 October) saw Ukraine represented by Vladyslav Kolobov and Mykhailo Svidrak. Kolobov opened with a win over Jordan Kouros of Greece to reach the round of 16, where he lost to Serbia’s Mihailo Symin and was eliminated.
Svidrak began directly in the 1/16 final because of a higher ranking and was defeated by Italy’s Antonio Esposito, ending his medal bid. In the men’s -81 kg category Georgia’s Tato Grigalashvili won gold after beating Azerbaijan’s Zelim Tskaev in the final; bronzes went to Mihailo Symin and Omar Rajabli (Azerbaijan).
In the women’s -63 kg division, Japan’s Haruka Kaju took gold with a win over Israel’s Kerem Primo. Bronze medals were claimed by Renata Zahova (Czechia) and Lkhagvatogoogiin Enkhriilen (Mongolia).
