City officials say cutting of trees at Teremky, intended to clear a corridor for a heat pipeline, has been suspended to allow fuller talks with activists. Kyiv City State Administration deputy head Petro Panteleiev told reporters the work was stopped until Tuesday, 11 August, and that an evening presentation will be held at the Holosiivska district administration to explain the project to the community.
Panteleieev said there is no alternative corridor for the route but officials are trying to find a solution that balances winter preparations and maximum preservation of plantings. He noted a 2023 prewar plan routed the pipeline along Teremkivska Street, but that design cannot be implemented before winter because it would require rerouting around sewage infrastructure and years of work. Residents have protested the felling—parts of the area were designated a recreation park in 2019 and some trees are over a century old—and there have been reports of clashes with police; the KMDA denied use of military-donated special equipment in the operation.
