Zagaykevych opera scenes 'Journey to the Great River' performed in Kyiv AI
On 14 August, Bouquet Kyiv Stage 2026 included a concert titled "Journey to the Great River," presenting concert performances of scenes from Alla Zagaykevych’s new opera based on Oleg Lysheha’s mysteria. The production, directed by Maryna Ryzhova, featured the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra under Nataliya Ponomarchuk with voice, bandura and electronics. Part of the festival’s contemporary-music strand and the "Modern and Timeless" project, the concert highlights Kyiv’s ongoing investment in new Ukrainian opera and experimental sound worlds.
On 14 August in Kyiv, Bouquet Kyiv Stage 2026 presented "Journey to the Great River," a concert-format presentation of scenes from a forthcoming opera by composer Alla Zagaykevych. The work is based on a mysteria by poet Oleg Lysheha and explores his engagement with East Asian motifs.
Director Maryna Ryzhova staged the concert performance while the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Nataliya Ponomarchuk, played the completed scenes. Performers combined voice, orchestra, bandura and electronic elements to shape the sound world of the piece.
The concert is part of the "Modern and Timeless" initiative, launched by Dom Master Class together with the National Philharmonic of Ukraine in 2023 to bring contemporary Ukrainian compositions to local audiences.
