The Kyiv City Centre for Control and Prevention of Diseases completed laboratory testing of water at popular recreation sites on August 10–11, 2026. Tests found excess sanitary-chemical indicators (notably biochemical oxygen demand, BOD5, and pH) at four monitoring points, and the centre recommends temporarily refraining from swimming and other recreational use at those locations.
The affected sites and reported values are: Chortoryi beach (Dnipro) — BOD5 3.3 mgO2/dm3 (norm ≤3.0); Troieshchyna beach (Desenka) — BOD5 5.6–5.9 mgO2/dm3; Garashchyha pond (Puscha‑Vodytsia) — BOD5 4.5–4.6 mgO2/dm3; and Verbne lake — BOD5 9.1–9.3 mgO2/dm3 and pH 9.24 (norm 6.5–8.5).
The centre says most other tested beaches met hygiene criteria and lists safe sites including Central, Peredmisna Slobidka, Molodizhny, Zolotyi, Venetia, Dytyachy, Veselka and Galerny on the Dnipro, plus Telbin lake, Natalka bay (Obolon island) and Raydizhne (Raduga beach). Officials continue daily monitoring and advise residents to check current laboratory results before visiting any beach and to follow wartime safety guidance (leave beaches for shelters during air‑raid alerts).
