Heavy machinery appears near Teremky park; city denies tree cutting AI

On Aug. 18 activists reported construction equipment and contractor crews at Teremky park and tried to block a truck. Residents and activists on Teremky reported the return of heavy construction machinery near the neighbourhood park on Aug. 18, and at least one clash as people tried to block a truck, activist Kateryna Chepura posted on social media.

Kyiv City State Administration (KMDA) told Glavcom the appearance of equipment and workers at the site was related to organisational and logistical work for the city’s energy-resilience measures — specifically the transport and storage of pre-insulated pipeline sections — and not the resumption of tree removal. KMDA said the prior agreement to pause removal of green plantings remains in effect.

The incident follows a wider dispute over tree cutting in Holosiivskyi district. On Aug. 11 the administration and local activists agreed to a two-week check to see whether a reserve heating route could avoid the park’s trees; that review is the basis for the current suspension, KMDA says.
