Extreme fire danger declared in Kyiv and Kyiv region, Aug 18–20 AI

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has announced an extreme fire-danger level across Kyiv city and Kyiv region for 18–20 August. Authorities urge people to avoid campfires and faulty electrical equipment; forests and forest-park areas remain closed under martial-law restrictions and fines apply for burning dry vegetation. The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center has forecast an extraordinary (extreme) level of fire danger in Kyiv and across Kyiv region for three days: 18–20 August. Local authorities are asking residents and visitors to be especially careful while recreating outdoors and to refrain from lighting fires outside designated areas.

City and regional officials also remind people not to use damaged or faulty electrical equipment and to follow basic fire-safety rules. A decision of the Kyiv City Defense Council keeping forests and forest-park areas closed during martial law remains in effect.

Fines are in place for burning dry vegetation: for citizens 6,120–12,240 UAH and for officials 21,420–30,600 UAH. Article 152 of the Administrative Code sets penalties of 340–1,360 UAH for making fires in unauthorized places. The forecast for Kyiv also notes daytime temperatures around 28–30°C, south winds 7–12 m/s and potential thunderstorms with gusts up to 15–20 m/s in some areas.
