Police in Kyiv say they detained a 33-year-old serviceman who unlawfully took a Citroën that belonged to another military serviceman currently at the front. The vehicle had been parked near a multi-storey building in the Desnianskyi district and was intended to be handed to the owner’s wife.
According to investigators, the man who received the keys involved a friend; that friend used the Citroën for his own needs and later posted an online sale ad. Law enforcement located and detained the suspect, who is recorded as having left his military unit without permission. The car was seized and returned to its owner.
The detainee has been notified of suspicion under part 2 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code (illegal seizure of a vehicle); if convicted he could face up to eight years’ imprisonment. Police continue criminal proceedings.
