Pereiaslav city council agreed on 20 August (15 deputies in favour) to request that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police install automated traffic enforcement complexes at the community's most dangerous stretches of road. Council members say persistent speeding has driven a high number of crashes, including a recent fatal collision that killed a 17-year-old.
The local authority named four priority locations for camera installation: Bohdana Khmelnytskoho Street (intersection with Borysivske Pole), Yarmarkova Street, Novokyivske Highway and Zolotoniske Highway. The council has asked police to survey those sites and include them in the official list of camera locations; the National Police issues permission and typically funds installation at selected sites.
Pereiaslav officials say they will provide the police with crash statistics, victim data, traffic intensity schemes and citizen complaints to support the request. A permanent council commission on legality and law enforcement will oversee implementation. Council members also noted that previously funded plate-recognition systems are currently operating in the community.
