Pereiaslav city councillors discussed school readiness and the coming heating season at a session on August 20. The community will operate 13 general education institutions in 2026–27 (9 gymnasiums, 2 lyceums and 2 primary schools) serving 3,680 pupils in 167 classes, down about 100 students from last year.
Council spending so far includes roughly 1 million UAH for basic needs (paint, materials, electrical and sewer repairs), 320,000 UAH for teacher medical exams and over 6.1 million UAH on fire-protection systems. At the session deputies approved an extra 2.8+ million UAH: 1,464,000 UAH for catering (816,000 UAH for Ivan Mazepa Lyceum, 648,000 UAH for other schools); 850,000 UAH for ongoing repairs with line-item allocations; 400,000 UAH for transport and heating needs (300,000 UAH for fuel and generators, 100,000 UAH for a circulation pump at Ivan Mazepa Lyceum); and 102,000 UAH for preschool and administration works.
Councillors flagged rural heating risks after last year’s pipeline failures in Velyka Karatul. Officials said some village boiler houses are rented (contract with company “Teplo Invest” runs to year-end), others use solid fuel with coal stocks and ongoing procurement, while one village has a gas boiler with gas-preparation work underway. Mayor Vyacheslav Saulko ordered commission checks of local heating communications, involving deputies, starostas and school directors, and mandated hydraulic pressure testing within a week.
