Kyiv city officials have set up a working group to seek technical and scientific solutions to restore Lake Sine in the Podilskyi district, the Kyiv city administration’s press service reported on 21 August 2026. The lake is a natural waterbody fed by surface and groundwater and has lost roughly two metres of water by the Baltic height system since 2018.
The municipal enterprise Pleso carried out a first stage of restoration in 2024, but those measures did not achieve the planned water levels. According to the city, the remaining works in the current project are also unlikely to deliver a substantial recovery, which prompted the formation of the working group.
The group includes scientists, specialists and public representatives; the administration says other interested parties — research institutions, relevant organisations and environmental groups with appropriate expertise — may join and propose scientifically grounded solutions. Separately, specialists continue testing water, soil and private well samples after a recent fish die-off in nearby Borshchahivka-area waterbodies.
