Kyiv’s iconic Podil funicular returned to passenger service from the second half of 21 August, the Kyiv City State Administration (KMDA) says. The funicular completed its annual planned repair and inspections and will run on its regular timetable after safety checks of cars and infrastructure. The short central link around Podil is a handy, quick connection for commuters and visitors; its return restores an easy cross-hill route in the city centre.

The Podil funicular reopened for passengers from the second half of 21 August, the Kyiv City State Administration (KMDA) reported. The lift was offline for the annual planned maintenance and has now been cleared to operate on its usual schedule.

Technicians from Kyivpastrans performed comprehensive servicing of the funicular’s infrastructure, equipment and cars. Works included repairs to the machine, compressor and thyristor rooms; adjustment of the pneumatic system; inspection of the traction cable and contact network; painting and metalwork; and inspection and partial replacement of sleepers.

Officials say carriages passed static and dynamic tests under increased load and that the mechanism and its parts were checked thoroughly, so regular passenger service can resume.
