Residents of Fastiv alerted emergency services after hearing human cries coming from underground on the evening of 23 August. At 19:34 the Fastiv district rescue service received a report that a woman had fallen into a collector (sewer) pit on Yaroslav Mudry Street, the State Emergency Service (DSNS) of Kyiv region said.

Firefighters from Fastiv’s 30th State Fire‑Rescue Unit found the woman more than five metres below ground and confirmed she had signs of life. Crews deployed rope systems and a stretcher, lowered rescuers to her location, immobilised and secured her, then lifted her to the surface using mountaineering equipment. Five personnel and one fire‑rescue vehicle took part in the operation. The rescued woman was handed over to emergency medical workers reportedly uninjured.
