Kyiv opens Ukraine’s first municipal driving school for veterans with disabilities AI

The Kyiv city government has launched the country’s first municipal driving school specifically for veterans with disabilities, including those after amputations. The inaugural cohort of 17 trainees will learn to drive adapted category B vehicles donated by the Dzhurynskykh family charity foundation, with veteran instructors and certified training. The school provides adapted cars, peer veteran instructors, and transport to classes via Kyiv Military Hub, plus future support for vehicle purchase and adaptation.

Kyiv has opened the first municipal specialised driving school in Ukraine for veterans and veteran women with disabilities, including people with musculoskeletal injuries and amputations. The school will teach learners to drive adapted cars, obtain category B licences, retrain drivers who had experience before injury, and operate vehicles fitted with hand controls.

The first intake already includes 17 veterans. Practical training will use specially equipped cars donated by the Dzhurynskykh family charity foundation; the training classroom has passed the required expert checks and the MVS service centre took part in project setup. Instructors are certified and include veterans working on a peer-to-peer “equal to equal” principle.

Organisers have arranged transport for trainees who cannot reach the school independently through the Kyiv Military Hub. City plans include widening programmes to serve all people with disabilities and offering partial compensation for vehicle purchase, vehicle re-adaptation, retraining, and employment support after course completion.
