Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko announced the opening of Ukraine’s first municipal specialized driving school for veterans and veteran women with disabilities, including those with musculoskeletal injuries and limb amputations.
The school has passed required examinations for its classroom program and will use specially equipped cars for practical lessons. The practice vehicles for category B were provided by the Dzhurynskyi family charitable foundation. Training can take applicants from zero driving experience to a driver’s licence, or retrain former drivers to use adaptive equipment such as hand controls.
Certified instructors will deliver the courses; the programme emphasizes peer instruction, with veteran instructors teaching other veterans. The city says 17 veterans have already joined the first cohort. Kyiv will also offer transport support through the Kyiv Military Hub, and plans to partially compensate graduates for vehicle purchase and individual re‑equipment, as well as assist with retraining and employment. Officials say the courses will later open to all people with disabilities who need specialized training.
