ATB limits purchases to six units per item in one receipt AI

From August 28, ATB supermarkets have capped sales at no more than six units (or packs/kg) of certain staples per receipt, both in-store and online. The limits cover items such as canned meat and fish, oil, cereals, eggs, sugar and salt; the chain says the measure targets resellers, not shortages. Kyiv shoppers who use ATB or its online store should expect purchase caps on common staples and may need to place separate orders for larger quantities.

The ATB supermarket chain introduced purchase limits across all its stores from August 28, restricting customers to a maximum of six items or six kilograms of certain grocery categories in a single receipt. The caps apply to both in-store and online orders — the website will prevent adding more than six units or packs of affected products to one cart.

Affected categories listed by the retailer include canned fish and meat, cooking oil, cereals and flakes, vinegar, instant foods, eggs, grains, sugar, salt, baking goods, pasta, baking soda and starch. Sergey Demchenko, head of corporate communications at ATB, told Suspilne the chain has no product shortages; the limits aim to curb bulk buying by some customers who resell goods and create artificial shortages.

Demchenko said the restriction is applied uniformly across all ATB outlets regardless of region. Customers planning larger household purchases may need to split transactions or contact the store for alternatives.
