Reporters find a sharp split between private and state prices for firewood this year. In the Kyiv region private oak now sells for about 3,700–4,500 UAH per cubic metre, up roughly 1.5–2× from 2025 levels of 1,500–2,500 UAH. Sellers charge more for pre-split, dry wood and add delivery; a sample minimum delivery to Solomianskyi district is cited at about 2,000 UAH.
By contrast, average state-sector prices rose only from about 1,140 UAH/m³ in 2025 to roughly 1,200 UAH/m³ in 2026. Some local state suppliers report even lower offers (for example, about 990 UAH/m³ for hardwood in one park). Buyers should note that state prices often exclude transport, loading and processing, which shifts costs back to households.
The piece compares heating costs too: at a gas price of 7.96 UAH/m³, equivalent heat from oak can be cheaper or more expensive depending on wood price and moisture; at current Kyiv oak prices, firewood-based heating can cost substantially more than gas. Reporters warn that seasonal demand may push private prices higher and note a one‑time annual subsidy for households that heat exclusively with solid fuel, requiring reapplication to the Pension Fund for 2026.
