On 27 September in Pereiaslav, residents, museum staff and city officials gathered at Zaaltytske cemetery to honour Mykhailo Sikorsky on the 15th anniversary of his death. A memorial panakhyda was led by Father Mykhailo (Yurchenko); Sikorsky created 27 local museums and long led the Reserve. Sikorsky turned Pereiaslav into a centre of museum heritage; the remembrance highlights a local cultural anchor easily reached from Kyiv for history-minded visitors.

On 27 September people in Pereiaslav gathered at Zaaltytske cemetery to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Mykhailo Ivanovych Sikorsky’s death. The memorial panakhyda was conducted by Father Mykhailo (Yurchenko) of the Ascension Church (Orthodox Church of Ukraine). Attendees included former and current staff of the National Historical‑Ethnographic Reserve, representatives of the Pereiaslav city council and local residents.

Sikorsky came to Pereiaslav in 1951 to lead the town’s lone museum, then holding 32 exhibits. Over decades he oversaw the creation of 27 museums that now preserve regional spiritual and cultural heritage. For his work he received the Taras Shevchenko State Prize in 1989 and the title Hero of Ukraine in 2005.
